On the beach in Greece, I woke to a warm, sunny morning. I stretched myself awake and looked out to sea. Everyone around me was still asleep.
I climbed out of my sleeping bag and walked down to the sea for a swim. When I looked back to shore, I saw a man leaving something on my pillow:six plump figs, carefully laid in the indentation where my head had been.
He stood up, nodded once in satisfaction. Then he walked back up the beach and was gone.
